Disney Cruise to Alaska – Why I’m Going for a Third Time

Disney Cruise to Alaska – Why I’m Going for a Third Time

By: Amy Franks, Travel Agent with Never Grow Up Vacations

Have you ever considered sailing to Alaska during the Summer on Disney Cruise Line? Yes, I know it sounds backwards, but Summer is the most amazing time to visit the “Last Frontier”, and there’s no better way to see it all than from a Disney Cruise. While your idea of vacation might typically include beaches and ice cold beverages, we can assure you that Alaska will not disappoint, especially on a Disney Cruise. With its abundance of wildlife and scenic views, there are plenty of opportunities and adventures that are perfect for travelers of all ages when sailing with Disney to Alaska!

The best way to travel to Alaska is by cruise, as it allows you to become one with nature and see multiple destinations over the course of one trip. Departing from Vancouver, Canada, Disney Cruises stop in popular cities such as: Icy Strait Point, Juneau, Ketchikan, Skagway, and Sitka. Plus, many sailings include a glacier viewing opportunity (talk about breathtaking)! Whether you’ve always wanted to visit Alaska or simply want a change in scenery from the Bahamian and Caribbean Disney Cruises you have come to know and love, you will not be disappointed in the destinations and scenery found on an Alaska Disney Cruise.

That’s me, Amy! The pictures will never do this scenery justice. You have to see it for yourself!

Disney Cruise Line has been going to Alaska for years, so this itinerary has become a favorite of many, including myself. Personally, I’ve been to Alaska twice, and am already booked for my third trip back! During my trips, I’ve been able to see whales, bears, otters, seals, moose, and eagles! Truly, one of my favorite cruise itineraries! Here are some of my Disney Cruise Alaska excursion recommendations from the ones I’ve done:

If you’re thinking a trip to Alaska might be for you, here are my favorite tips for your next Alaska vacation:

  1. Cruising is a MUST! Did you know that Alaska is the biggest state in the USA? Cruising with Disney allows you to experience as much of this beautiful state as possible in a single visit to really maximize your time together with your family or friends. You get to take in absolutely breathtaking landscapes from one of the most beautiful cruise ships at sea while checking multiple cities off your travel bucket list. I saw the most incredible sunsets while on the ship with a backdrop of mountains that no camera could ever do justice to capturing.

  2. Consider a verandah stateroom. It does allow the privacy of viewing these beautiful scenes in the comfort of your room. The landscape is ever changing, as you sail through the Inside Passage. Can you imagine anything more peaceful than enjoying your morning cup of coffee on your private verandah as you sail through the beauty of the Alaskan waterways?

  3. The best weather is from June-August. During these peak Summer months in the States, your average temperatures will typically hit 70 degrees. And we know that one of the most favorite pastimes onboard a Disney Cruise vacation for so many are the pools, so you might be wondering if you can swim on a Disney Cruise to Alaska. The answer is yes! Disney does heat their pools on deck and has hot tubs as well so you can enjoy even from Alaska.

  4. Bring binoculars! Nature is all around you and you don’t want to miss a thing. Do you remember the scene from Brother Bear when the moose are playing a game of Eye Spy? Eye Spy with binoculars can be a fun DIY-excursion you can do from the ship with your family as you look for wildlife throughout your sailing. We have a full list of packing items you might not be thinking about for your Disney Cruise here including binoculars.

As with all Disney Cruise Line sailings, you can expect the famous Disney magic paired with beautiful sights and sounds! All Disney Cruise sailings include: food, accommodations, award-winning entertainment, children’s activities, adults-only spaces and activities (for more on why adults love Disney Cruises read here), character interactions, and so much more! For a full list of everything included and not included in your Disney Cruise, visit this blog. With all that is included in a Disney Cruise plus the beauty and adventure that can be found in Alaska, Disney Cruises to Alaska are definitely worth it!
